In Maths our vision is to ensure that every student feels fully supported and confident to achieve their potential in Mathematics. We provide a variety of teaching and learning styles as well as appropriate and stimulating experiences to maximize the enjoyment, learning and success of our students.
Students work in small groups to help them move their knowledge on quickly. Lessons are planned to address targets from regular assessment and to allow students to fill in any gaps they have in their learning. ICT is used wherever possible to enhance learning.
Students work through the current KS3 curriculum and if necessary move onto the KS4 curriculum. They are assessed on a termly basis against APP and PiXL levels to allow them to see the progress they are making and to allow them in collaboration with staff to set challenging and personal targets for their next term’s work.
All students will complete the Edexcel GCSE 9-1 course. The course will be studied over two years and will be examined at the end of Year 11 at both Higher and Foundation level. The course covers the four main branches of mathematics:
Students are encouraged to make connections between the different branches of mathematics and time is made available to enable students to work on cross curricular material to deepen understanding of the topics being covered. Students are assessed throughout the academic year.
